Working Title: Laborer, Laborer Apprentice, or Laborer Pre-Apprentice

Supervisor: Foreman

General Description of Position: Assist skilled craft workers in performing their assigned duties.

Essential functions and responsibilities listed below:

  • Tend pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power to the jobsite
  • Mix ingredients to create compounds used to cover or clean surfaces
  • Load and unload trucks and haul materials
  • Erect temporary structures
  • Measure distances for areas to be graded, or on which to erect structures
  • Position, join, and seal structural compounds
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools such as sawing, erecting and dismantling scaffolding, shoring and braces, mounting pipe hangers, cutting, and attaching insulation material, etc.
  • Places and vibrates freshly poured concrete. May mix concrete or mortar using portable mixer.
  • Mops, brushes or spreads paint or bituminous compounds over services and applies caulking compound by hand or with caulking gun to seal surfaces.
  • Lifts, carries and holds building materials and supplies, levels earth to fine grade using pick and shovel and measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes and stretches tight line
  • Grinds, sands and polishes surfaces such as concrete or wood
  • Cleans tools, equipment, materials and work area
  • Operate hand and power tools
  • Perform job clean-up
  • When not performing the above essential duties and responsibilities, may assist in other operations as designated by the supervisor

Specific Equipment and Materials to be used: Carpenter’s hand tools, small/medium/large power tools, bench tools (saw, drill, grinder), concrete saw, chipper, sander, paving reaker, jackhammer

Safety Policies and Practices: The employee in this job must be knowledgeable about and follow the company’s safety policies and procedures as described in the company’s safety manual.

Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience and Training: Three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work environment/: The work enviroment/physical demands characteristics described here are representative of those the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high and/ or precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
