Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Operational Technology Engineer II will manage SCADA, Substation Automation, and Energy Management Systems (EMS) for renewable power generation. You will provide technical expertise during the development and construction of new sites as well as supporting the remote operating control center (ROCC) with day to day operations of exiting sites.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Design and development of SCADA infrastructure for wind/solar/storage construction plants, including, but not limited to
    • Contract review (TSA, LGIA, PPA)
    • Development/review of technical specifications, scope of work and configuration guidelines
    • Review and execute requirements from ISOs, utilities and offtakers
    • Design and testing of substation SCADA equipment (relays, IEDs, HMI)
    • Development and testing of Automatic generator control (AGC) algorithms
    • Execute FAT and plant testing
  • Support operating facilities with troubleshooting plant/substation control systems, energy management system, communication issues, and telemetry to external entities (offtakers, ISO, TSO)
  • Ensure power plants are built and operated in compliance with cybersecurity and NERC CIP regulations
  • Develop and maintain documentation of existing SCADA infrastructure such as communication diagrams, software configuration guidelines, troubleshooting guides.
  • Interface with and support internal organizations including the ROCC, Asset Operations, Market Operations, and Information Technology
  • Interface with and support external entities such as offtakers/ISO/TSO, SCADA contractors, Turbine/PV suppliers
  • Provide after-hours support in troubleshooting SCADA, EMS, and communication issues.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Master’s degree in electrical/computer Engineering, computer science or any related field. Bachelor’s degree may be accepted with sufficient experience.
  • 8-10 years’ experience working with SCADA/EMS system design, substation controls and implementation, SCADA telemetry troubleshooting. 10+ years for bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages such as python, C++, JavaScript
  • Experience with SCADA software platforms such as Ignition, AVEVA, Simatic, FactoryTalk, Cimplicity
  • Experience with industrial protocols such as Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3.0, IEC-60870-6/TASE.2, OPC-UA/DA/XML
  • Experience configuring & troubleshooting SEL devices such as RTACs, IEDS, relays, meters
  • Experience with networking architecture designs (routing, firewall settings, VLAN, NAT) and troubleshooting using protocol analyzers.
  • Understanding of Microsoft products and/or complementing products preferred.
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment.
  • Occasionally perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and
  • climbing at project locations to inspect equipment or collect information
  • Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of
  • instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds
  • Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary
