Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

The Director Construction is responsible for all construction resources assigned for the execution of all construction activities. Serves as the primary interface to the project management team and the client for all construction issues. Plan, direct, and supervise all design and construction phase tasks/activities included within the scope of commissioning projects. Establish the scope, work plan and work schedule and ensure this is communicated to the Project staff and Department Managers. Ensure that quality workmanship is maintained at all times and in accordance with applicable construction procedures, methods, codes and specifications.

  • Manage and lead the overall project including technical, financial, and client satisfaction
  • Accountable for the development, coordination, and execution of the design phase, construction phase, testing/training phase, warranty phase activities, final commissioning report and personnel.
  • Serves as senior advisor to management; influences highly complex decisions regarding the direction or operation of department.
  • Identifies and takes ownership for developing ideas for technical or business improvement initiatives that impact department/division.
  • Works on significant and unique issues and projects.
  • Regularly uses independent judgment in the evaluation of intangibles or situations with minimal precedent or standards available for reference. Selects methods, techniques, and analytical approach and evaluation criteria.
  • Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or highly complex special assignments.
  • Sets technical direction for a department; assists management with setting the strategic direction for key products, research areas, programs and services.
  • Negotiate and influence - interprets department policies and services, conflicts and influences outcomes on matters of significance to the department/division.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent; Advanced business acumen.
  • Expert knowledge with experience in Calpine's industry sectors including simple and combined cycle power plants, Battery Energy Storage (BESS), and solar; typically requires minimum of 12+ years in area of specialization.
