The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and contributing to the production of varying types of forgings, while making decisions and improvements on forging processes and practices throughout all aspects of the forging operation; and, under general supervision, maintaining responsibility for the safety, productivity, quality and performance of the Forge crew.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

Safety - knowledge of industrial safety and ability to recognize hazards and apply safety procedures common to material handling and operating equipment, such as hazmat, MSDS, personal protective equipment, machine tool safety; Work to meet and exceed OSHA requirements for safe work practices

English language - ability to read, understand, speak, write, and interpret common manufacturing/shop documents; Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Teamwork - ability to work effectively with coworkers, supervisors, managers, and others.

Ability to multi-task and manage multiple and/or changing priorities.

Understanding of forge fundamentals and processes.

Math - knowledge and ability to apply arithmetic skills, such as adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, and fractions for the purpose of operating forging machines and workpiece inspection.

Mechanical - familiarity with machines used to forge and press metal.

Ability to learn and use precision measuring instruments.

Ability to read and understand instructions/work orders

Attention to detail.

Judgment and decision-making to prevent errors, scrap parts, safety hazards, or other poor results pertaining to job duties.

Problem solving skills to identify problems, inform others, and provide information to assist with solving the problem.

Ability to work overtime as required.

Ability to work shifts as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Daily decision-making responsibility for Forge Team, inclusive of scheduling, Discipline, Promotions, Engagement and Issue Resolution

Work with Human Resources to address any HR-related concerns, issues or tasks involving team members

Observe all safety, health and environmental procedures.

Ensure identification of material is maintained throughout the forging process.

Receives instructions and necessary information from Management and computer systems. Receives and works from work orders, sketches, schedules, charts, blueprints and verbal instructions. Reviews each work order before starting the forging process at the beginning of each shift to make sure all information is correct, such as forge sketches, machine prints, finish prints, heat numbers, starting stock, etc.

Plans the most efficient method to work each job and best order in which to maintain the proper heat for each piece, and ensure efficient utilization of furnace capacity.

Operate forge press and heat treat equipment, and operates Press Controls to turn on, check system, initiate press set-up load dies and tooling into press and remove tooling after forge run is complete.

Directs and assists crew in working material in the press, including the handling of the piece and the use of the forming, checking, and cutting tools, in an effort to minimize delay and maintain high gross tons per hot die minute.

Instructs manipulators in presenting parts for inspection and fully runs/transfers parts.

Install, adjust, and remove dies, synchronizing cams, forging rams and stop guides, using overhead cranes or other hoisting devices, and hand tools.

Set up, operate, or tend presses and forging machines to perform hot or cold forging by flattening, straightening, bending, cutting, piercing, or other operations to taper, shape, or form metal.

Blow off scale as required in order to produce quality forgings.

Maintain dies with the proper lube.

Mentor and assist with training of team members on compliance with all applicable safety, quality, and operating procedures and the importance of customer focus.

Share knowledge on forging, performance expectations and job duties to help others improve in their understanding, work performance, and satisfaction.

Measure and inspect parts using various inspection tools (Calipers, Gauges, Micrometers, etc.) to ensure conformance to product specifications.

Provide assistance to the QC inspection of hot forgings.

Keep traceability of product in the furnaces with regard to location and Heat Codes.

Completes required operational data entry and maintain material traceability per operational requirements.

Assist maintenance during repair of forging equipment and furnaces as required.

Performs all other duties as required.
