Job Description

The Area Branch Manager (Transportation & Infrastructure Engineering) is the highest-ranking executive of an STV Operating Group in a state or major metropolitan area. Responsibilities:

The Area Branch Manager is the 'face' of STV in the assigned market and location (the "Area") and is accountable for planning and organizing the business and for making the operational decisions necessary to achieve STV's desired strategic and annual outcomes for the Area. These outcomes include targets and objectives for client relations, growth, project performance, efficiency and talent development. The Area Manager leads a team of project management, technical, business development and administrative support personnel and reports to the Operating Group President or to his/her designee. The Area Branch Manager also serves as part of the Operating Group President's leadership team and is responsible for collaborating with Operating Group peers and STV's Centers of Excellence to leverage and share market knowledge, resources and strategies to achieve both local and wider success.

In addition to the above accountabilities, the Area Branch Manager is responsible for:

  • Representing STV with clients, the industry and the broader community across the Area.
  • Working with STV client service team leaders to assure STV enjoys a robust relationship with its clients.
  • Maintaining close professional relationships with key people at client, teaming partner, industry and community organizations.
  • Creating and implementing plans that align with and achieve STV's strategic plan objectives.
  • Identifying, recruiting and developing talent with the aim of growing the business and assuring a strong line of succession for key leadership roles in the operation.
  • Providing effective management of STV's local business activities including selection of STV's client mix and services offering, adding new clients, winning new work, execution of projects, hiring locally based personnel, resource planning and controlling overhead expenditure.
  • Assuring the operation adheres to STV's policies and procedures.
  • Identifying, mentoring and training the next generation of future leaders.
  • Analyzing and understanding client, business and industry issues that potentially affect STV's business in the Area and for preparing plans to position STV to capitalize on those trends.
  • Assessing performance of the STV team members and taking action to rectify any shortfalls against expectations and to recognize and promote those of exceptional ability.
  • Analyzing and reporting on business performance and implementing timely measures to address adverse outcomes to assure financial goals are achieved.

Required Skills and Abilities:

As the highest-ranking executive of the business group in the Area, the Area Branch Manager must exhibit outstanding leadership capabilities, impeccable integrity, a strategic mindset and unquestionably good judgement. A successful Area Manager takes pride in being held accountable, is highly motivated, is collaborative with a results-oriented style and leads by example.

Inquisitive, collaborative, outgoing and driven are important characteristics of a successful Area Manager. Other key attributes of the Area Manager include:

  • Ability to assess the business environment, develop plans and clearly communicate them.
  • Experience in the Civil/Transportation Engineering Sector is an absolute must!
  • Excellent judgement to discern important factors affecting the business and to set priorities.
  • Ability to delegate to those best-positioned to efficiently deal with issues.
  • Being a recognized leader in the market and region having strong relationships with key clients.
  • Commitment to, and personal leadership of, the company's commitments to DEI, H&S, Quality and the ethical conduct of our business.
  • 10+ years of experience in the Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering market sector in roles such as business development, operations management, project or engineering management.
  • A BS or BA Degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant field.
  • Professional registration or certification in a field related to the market sector is preferred.

A successful Area Branch Manager excels in multiple facets of STV's business including leadership, management and execution. Performance is therefore measured on a mix of quantitative and qualitative factors as follows:

Quantitative Measures

  • Building a reputable and competitive business: $ won & $ hit rate.
  • Creating opportunities for employees: year on year service revenue growth.
  • Establishing and managing an efficient business: service revenue $ / total payroll $.
  • Exercising good commercial judgement and practices: DSO & overhead rate.

Qualitative Measures:

  • Exhibit the highest standards of leadership and collaboration: 360-degree reviews.
  • Represent STV in the community: personal involvement and leadership in relevant organizations.
  • Build an enduring operation: voluntary turnover & succession planning.
  • Assure provision of high-quality services: quality audits, repeat business, client feedback surveys.

Compensation Range:

$143,685.00 - $191,580.00
