We are currently looking for a Lead Project Engineer to support us with our increasing order volume regarding our engineering activities in executing projects for Enclosed Powertrain Packages. In this role, you will ensure that activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are efficiently and cost-effectively executed in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. You will report to the Director, Enclosed Powertrain Packaging ***The ideal candidate is located in the United States (Houston, TX preferred) or Canada (Calgary, AB).*** Willingness to travel is required (around 20-25%).

Your responsibilities

  • Evaluate, select and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features. Execute assignments using established solutions.
  • Review and approve Structural, Mechanical and Electrical design.
  • Validate that supplier will meet the state certification requirement.
  • Create and manage technical documentation.
  • Oversees site specific electrical studies like harmonic, load flow, arc flash and coordination studies and ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Act as a design authority for electrical system engineering discipline and complete engineering assignments for that discipline.
  • Collaborate on proposal, E-House integration, project installation, commissioning, and site activities, clarifying potential issues or providing solutions to correct engineering errors.
  • Provide technical support the after-delivery services team during activities.
  • Assist in creating proposals for engineering projects or programs through provision of bills of materials and estimated engineering hours for own discipline.
  • Support Contract Managers in issuing claims (new scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications etc.).
  • Create work plans and cost estimates for work in own area of responsibility and proactively manage this work to deliver the agreed program on time, on quality, and at the targeted cost.
  • Evaluate risks and opportunities, strategize mitigation of one's engineering projects/programs. Support the Project Execution and After Delivery Service Teams in overall project risk and opportunity assessments and implementation of resulting actions. Identify opportunities for repeating and new businesses.
  • Interact with customers, contractors, suppliers. Attend project meetings and present all technical aspects of project assignments.
  • Review the creation of subcontracts (technical specification) jointly with other involved functions, including supply chain management.
  • Collaborate and network with engineering colleagues within ABB. Share best practice across different projects and disciplines.
  • Utilize standard processes, tools, and techniques. Ensure that engineering activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate teams in all engineering disciplines (both in-house and outsourced).
Your background

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an Engineering discipline, Electrical Engineering would be an advantage.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in an engineering role with a focus on Plant Engineering, Power System Engineering or Electrical Utility Engineering.
  • Solid understanding of the interface between facility electrical systems and utility, ability to troubleshoot, support tendering and after delivery service.
  • Experience in structural, mechanical and electrical systems in E-Houses.
  • Good overview of State Certification process, national and/or local codes and regulations is an advantage.
  • Experience with CAD software, such as AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects of scope and scale simultaneously.
  • Good collaboration and organizational skills.
  • Fluent English language skills.
