Reformer Furnace Engineer (Fired Heater Engineer) Roles and Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Reformer Furnace Engineer (Fired Heater Engineer) within our Project Delivery Group located at our Houston, TX work location. This position requires 15% domestic / global travel.

The Fired Heater Engineer is responsible for performing structural/mechanical design calculations and managing assigned tasks and projects with a high degree of independence. He or she is also expected to collaborate effectively with the engineering and design team to complete project deliverables in a timely manner. The Fired Heater Engineer interfaces with internal and external project stakeholders and may be required to act as the engineering lead on large capital projects.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Review and develop project scope, schedule, and execution strategies, including developing multicenter execution strategies involving other Air Products regions and offices.
  • Prepare structural and mechanical design calculations and design packages within budget and schedule.
  • Review and approve drawings prepared by design staff and suppliers, including shop drawings.
  • Review and interpret code requirements, project requirements, and contract documents.
  • Engage with key stakeholders (management team, design centers, suppliers, contractors) in the execution and delivery of contracted activities.
  • Identify areas of risk, risk mitigation, and improvement opportunities, particularly with respect to safety.
  • Resolve difficult technical and other issues which are non-recurring and occasionally unique.
  • Routine travel to domestic and international locations for meetings, jobsite and fabrications inspections, and suppliers may be required.
  • Collaborate with affiliate worldwide Products groups on practices, standards, and workshare.
  • Participate in industry association activities (API, ASME, etc.)
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and start-up activities.

Education and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical engineering is preferred. Fired Heater/Reformer or similar industrial equipment experience is preferred, including design of structures, tubes support castings, ducting, and piping.
  • PE License is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership experience and skills including interfacing with global teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes (API, AISC, ASCE 7, AWS, IBC, ASME etc.)
  • Proficiency in STAAD or other structuralanalysis software.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Smart 3D (S3D) or other 3D modeling tool.
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural team and business environment.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Takes personal responsibility for safety and a healthy environment on the projects and in the office.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Good driving record
