How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

Assists in planning, directing, and coordinating all efforts at the La Porte and Pasadena, TX. facilities. The Assistant Plant Manager has second level responsibility for all operations within both facility including safety, health, environmental, quality, production, analytical, distribution, material management, and maintenance performance.

The Assistant Plant Manager supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in producing and repackaging compressed and liquid gases into cylinders with emphasis on quality assurance. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations in accordance with Airgas SOPs and standard work procedures.. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of capacities or machines and equipment. Implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and changes working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew

  • Assist in Operating and safely maintaining the plant in all phases of the operation while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local and company policies, procedures, regulations and laws.

  • Assist in managing and leading subordinate supervisors to provide leadership to plant technicians.

  • Conduct periodic checks of plant for safe and efficient operation.

  • Ensure all safety rules are strictly observed and assist with safety training.

  • Maintain neat, clean and orderly plant appearance.

  • Helps manage open order book and production schedule to achieve goals set by ASG management.

  • Resolve problems associated with plant operation.

  • Insure compliance to all applicable quality standards

  • Provide input as it relates to employee performance.

  • Approve overtime when essential, while keeping overtime at acceptable levels.

  • Issue disciplinary action if required.

  • Trains new workers and cross trains employees to continue production during personnel shortages.

  • Supports efforts to meet facility on time, safety, quality and financial goals.

  • Basic knowledge of analytical instrumentation such as gas chromatography, nondispersive infrared and component-specific analyzers for analysis of gaseous samples

  • Basic understanding of physical properties of various gases and chemicals and general knowledge of laws of Partial Pressure

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software suite

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience in gases and welding supply industry. 2+ years' experience supervising, motivating and leading first level supervisors and other employees, preferably in a manufacturing environment

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from associates, groups of managers, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
