Manager, Electrical Design Engineering
JOB SUMMARY
This
position is responsible for the management of the electrical design engineering
group for the ProTechnics division. Hands-on, working manager will
design, test, implement, and evaluate electronic equipment for high temperature
applications. Design solutions through troubleshooting, resulting in
implementation. Management responsibilities include project approval, project
coordination and assignment of resources to development activities. Works
closely with the ProTechnics leadership team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversee the
development of high pressure down-hole logging tools and other
surface equipment.
- Coordinate product development
activities to ensure all products meet customer, company, and industry
safety requirements.
- Demonstrate and possess
specialized knowledge of products, materials, processes, procedures, and
industry practices.
- Assist with the engineering
analysis of components and systems to ensure acceptable and approved
engineering practices are followed in the development process. Apply
American Petroleum Institute (API) Recommended Practices (RP) in the
analysis, development, and use of products.
- Plan product development
activities with cost estimates and assist with assignment of engineering
personnel and resources to meet project requirements.
- Design and
develop analog and digital circuits for battery powered memory down hole
logging tools.
- Handle testing
and qualification of electronics.
- Manage
troubleshooting to diagnose electronic and mechanical failures.
- Responsible for
making recommendations for design improvement.
- Responsible for
design and implementation:
- Create Schematic and PCB layouts.
- Build
prototypes for testing and component qualification.
- Assist in the development of firmware for tools.
- Develop any desktop software required for testing.
- Create
documentation required for production and support.
- Design
mechanical components.
- Responsible
for the Project Management per design; estimating cost, souring
materials, and developing timelines.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, required.
- Minimum of 8 years' experience designing and testing analog and digital circuits.
- Experience in design and drafting courses including experience and/or training in the use of computer aided design software and engineering analysis software.
- Experience and/or training with Microsoft Office, SolidWorks is preferred.
- Must be experienced working with embedded microcontrollers.
- Must be experienced creating schematic and PCB Layouts
- Previous experience at designing, testing, and prototyping designs.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED
- Knowledge *of firmware and desktop software design
- Must have thorough knowledge of how to use electronic equipment (oscilloscope, function generator, multimeter, etc.)
- Mechanical aptitude
- Must have good deductive reasoning skills
- Project management experience
- Good communication skills
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Will work weekends and extended hours
as needed.
The
employee will be involved with the assembly and/or testing of prototype
tools. Reasonable physical strength and aptitude may be required to
assist with testing activities. Specific vision abilities required by
this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
